What inspires you when you write about pain and sadness? Ordinary days, society, just how I feel. That’s what I write. Everyone suffers somehow. Nobody that lives a normal life is ever far from suffering. Can you write a song if you’re happy then? Umm… Yes, maybe. Unfortunally, I have a hard time/find it hard to be/ being happy. It’s my personality. I’m never satisfied. Our songs is about suffering. I’m a person that find it hard to be happy. Even when I feel a little happy, I will think: ”Hm, I could feel better.” How do you decide what english words to use? It should influence the song’s melody a lot. Sometimes english is much more fitting. I can describe details better with japanese, since it’s our native language. If I want to say something exact, if the nuance is important, I will use japanese. If I just want to say something cool, I can do it in english. What does the song ”Machiavellism” mean? It doesn’t have a political meaning. It’s about extremity. When we found out what the word itself meant, it’s about how we are controlled by power/authority and living under oppression. In the chorus you sing ”Hurry cut show”? Is it about suicide? That’s hard for me to answer, because all lyrics are written by our vocalist Kyo. I can’t tell you how he felt when he wrote it. I know he’s not trying to kill himself. He always writes about what he feels. When he’s trying to explain it maybe he’s trying to say something very extreme, heard that kids has attempted suicide or he wants to say something through that subject. But that doesn’t mean that he himself want to commit suicide. Kyo cuts himself? Only on stage. No, he doesn’t do it off stage***. He gets very enthusiastic about what he has written (about in his songs). And his only outlet for it is the stage. When he gets high, he cuts himself. For us it’s a sign of a good show. We trust him not to cut deep, or kill himself on stage. Sometimes he becomes to much off stage too, but he’s never hurt anyone. We never know what’s going to happen, I don’t think he’ll hurt himself or anyone else. Do you use fake blood on stage? No, it’s real blood. What differences do you see in Europe and Japan? The people I have worked with in Japan has worked with us a long time. It makes one feel safe, but it’s not very exciting. I don’t mean that it’s not good. Here in overseas countries I feel that we’re building the scene from the ground, working with new people all the time. It’s very stimulating. We don’t sell very much here but everytime we play, lots of people show up. I’m surprised that the fans know who we are. Your style was more androgynous before (in the beginning). I used to think (back in the old days) that the visual aspect was very important. Geishamakeup and whatnot. Visuals is a tool for us to show our feelings. One risks being misunderstood if you dress to extreme. We want the audience to understand the depht of our music, not just focus on our clothes. But we haven’t totally given up that style. Maybe we’ll wear heavy makeup in the future. Maybe we’ll be naked. That depends on how our music evolves. Is the Visual Kei scene in Japan dead? No, it continues. But it hasn’t moved forwards. There are bands that just have fun. They have fun with Visual Kei. And that’s only our opinion. We don’t know if it’s good or bad. In the beginning of the 90’ Visual Kei was much more extreme and aggressive. Nowadays they (other bands) only do it so the fans will like them. They are better with the visuals than the music. I don’t think it has any rock feel/feeling of rock. What does your tattoo ”Japanese Zombie Heroes” mean? That’s how we feel. We only live when we play. Without music, we’re zombies. Zombie means living dead. Is that how you feel? No, not like that. We aren’t very good people, honestly. We’re worthless and from Japan. But we do have a band.
